When Do You Need SD Card Recovery?
SD card flashing is Bitmain's last-resort recovery method for a control board that will not boot normally -- for example after a failed firmware update, a corrupted filesystem, or an interrupted flash. Instead of upgrading firmware through the miner's normal web interface, you write a special recovery image to a microSD card, insert it into the control board's SD slot, and power the unit on; the board boots from the card and automatically reflashes its internal storage with working firmware. This process is model-specific -- using the wrong tool package for your exact control board revision (for example mixing up L3+ and L3++ tools) can leave the miner in a worse state, so always match the SD recovery tool to your exact model before flashing.
