What Was the AntRouter R1?
The AntRouter R1, released around 2016-2017, was an unusual product from Bitmain: a combination Wi-Fi router and ultra-low-power Scrypt or SHA-256 ASIC miner built into a single small device, capable of mining a tiny amount of Litecoin or Bitcoin in the background while functioning as a home router. It was aimed more at novelty and education than serious profitability -- its hashrate was negligible compared to dedicated mining hardware even at the time of release. It is a niche, largely historical product today, interesting mainly as an example of Bitmain's early experimentation with consumer-facing mining devices.
